Donna Flaugher Jensen, age 95, died on November 25, 2020, in Bremerton, Washington. She was born on March 16, 1925, in Heaton, North Dakota to Wayne and Hazel Flaugher. The second of four daughters, Donna grew up in Heaton and graduated from high school in 1943 as the only young woman in her class of five. Despite poor vision, Donna was an avid learner and was awarded a scholarship to Jamestown College in North Dakota where she attended her freshman year. In 1944 she and her family moved to Bremerton, Washington. As part of the war effort, Donna was certified by the Red Cross as a nurse's aide and became a licensed practical nurse at Harrison Memorial Hospital in 1945. Working as an LPN to earn money for college, she met her future husband Ervin Jensen, who was a patient. They dated for a time, including while they were both studying at the University of Washington.

In 1952, Donna graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's in Zoology. She then attended the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine to complete a Physical Therapy degree in 1953. While she was working as a physical therapist in Longview, WA, Ervin, who had been working as a newspaper reporter in Juneau, AK, returned to Bremerton. He and Donna began dating again, and he soon proposed. They were married in Longview on September 21, 1956, and built their home near Silverdale. In 1959 they became parents of twin daughters.

As a women's health education pioneer, Donna specialized in the field of prepared childbirth and started the childbirth education classes at Harrison Hospital in 1958. With characteristic enthusiasm and expertise, she and her staff offered classes that prepared mothers and fathers for labor and delivery and baby care. She worked as an instructor and director of the Childbirth Education program until retiring in 1989.

In retirement, Ervin and Donna were active members of the Manette History Club. They also attended Keyport Bible Church and participated in a weekly senior Bible study. Four years after Ervin's death, Donna moved to Claremont East Senior Living in Manette, where she
enjoyed weekly chapel services with friends from Keyport Bible Church, bible studies, hymn singing, and any activities that included coffee and cookies. Although she experienced significant vision and memory loss, Donna not only continued to encourage and pray for others, but she regularly expressed appreciation for the care and kindness shown to her, especially by her loving caregivers over the last eight months of her life.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Wanda Storebo, sister Shirley Bird, and her dear husband Ervin. Surviving are her sister Audrey Enger, daughters Valerie Otheim (Paul) and Joy Pope (Stephen), grandchildren Aaron Otheim, Bethany Dieringer (Christopher), Karl Otheim (Jordan), Nathaniel Pope, Benjamin Pope (Alexandra), and Laurel Pope, and great-grandchildren Hudson and Rowen Dieringer and Violet and Daphne Pope.
