Kenneth was born in Meridian, MS on October 26, 1929. He started his career when he joined the United States Marine Corps. He fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was awarded multiple badges, commendations, campaign ribbons and medals that include two purple hearts. He gave 29 proud years of service to his country. He ended his service in 1975, when he retired as a Captain.
He is preceded in death by his late wife, Virginia May; his parents, Verdie Pinion and Charles C. May; his son, Rodney May and daughter, Debbie Dorn; his sister, Anna Louise Hough and two brothers, Conrad and Charles May. He has left behind a loving wife of 11 years, Silvia May; his daughters, Katherine Bowers (Darrin) of Pittsburgh, PA, Tabitha May and Kathy Johnson, both of Jacksonville, NC; his sons, Kenneth May Jr (Judy) of Martinsville, VA, Joey Pavy (Janice) of Madison, NC, Larry Boatwright and Mark Anderson, both of Jacksonville, NC; sisters, Mary Edna Lambre of Chicago, IL, Francis Smith and Stella Reeres, both of Rome, NY; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. The family will receive friends from Noon until the service time beginning at 1 p.m. The service will conclude at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery where he will receive Military Honors and finally be laid to rest.
