Newbury, NH - Karen Robin (O'Keefe) Hayes Carruth, 75, of Whitney's Way, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021 at her home.

She was born in Boston, MA on February 8, 1946, the daughter of Pauline (Whitman) O'Keefe and James C. O'Keefe. She was graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School, received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and Law from Bunker Hill Community College and a Bachelor Degree in Education from Notre Dame College, Manchester, NH.

Karen moved to NH in 1981 and with her three sons owned and operated "Remick's Country Store" in Tamworth, NH. After moving to Epsom, NH Karen became a meter maid with the Concord Police Dept. Her career ended with her favorite job, as a high school teacher for eleven years at the NH State Prison for Women from which she retired in 2006. It was as a teacher that she felt she really changed lives for the better.

She and her husband, Bill, owned and operated two more small businesses, Old Forge Books for 19 years and The 1806 Inn at Mount Sunapee, Bed & Breakfast for 9 years. In 2015, they really retired.

Bill and Karen loved to travel especially in Europe where they had many family members to visit.

Karen was predeceased by her sons Matthew Hayes in 2017 and his twin brother, Sean, who passed away in Sept. 2020. Lastly she was predeceased by her beloved husband, William "Bill" Carruth. Karen is survived by her son, Patrick Hayes and his wife, Marloes and two granddaughters, Anna and Sien of Zwolle, Netherlands; her emotionally adopted daughter, Natalia Brazhnik of Germany; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hayes of Red Oak, TX; two stepdaughters, Lisa and husband, Barry Schweitzer of Quechee, VT and Tobi Beman and husband, Robbie of Westfield, MA; a stepson, Robert Carruth and wife Emma of CT; several step grandchildren, Olivia (Schweitzer) Landsman and husband Charlie and their son, Harry Landsman; Benjamin Schweitzer of Quechee, VT; Jacob, Tyler and Hailey Beman of Westfield, MA; Charlie and Oscar Carruth of NY City and several nieces and nephews from Boston, MA.

She loved to do counted cross stitch and crossword puzzles and work in the garden. She really enjoyed the company of her two cats. Most of all, she loved her husband Bill and her family.
