Obituary

Rodney D. Williams, 61

Rodney “Rod” D. Williams, age 61, passed away at his home on February 10, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Rod was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Juanita Faye Durrant Williams and Spencer Howell Williams on September 2, 1959. Rod spent his life in Blackfoot. His early years were spent mostly in the Harmony Acres area of Blackfoot, and then at the age of 8 the family moved to Wapello. He always was a lover of animals. From an early age he had all types – a pet monkey, skunk, duck, rabbits, and dogs. He had such a love of animals from the time spent on his grandparent’s farm. Wherever he lived, he, his brother Darrell, and his cousin Dennis would make their way to the farm (even on horseback from Wapello) for some lunch and play. Rod was always engaged in the ranch life and it was what made him happy.

Rod attended grade school at Irving and Wapello Elementary, and later attended Blackfoot Junior High, and Blackfoot High School. Rod moved handlines in his younger years as well as worked at the stock yards. He also helped his father install wheel lines. He began working for Kip Mickelsen planting potatoes, then Tepee Potato Company; which became SunSpiced Potatoes. After leaving SunSpiced, he desired to work in what he loved and started to work in ranching. He ran a ranch in Mackay, Idaho, then returned to Blackfoot where he began working for Steve Blaser. After some time, he made the decision to work for himself to grow his herd of cattle. Rod and his family enjoyed every minute of this endeavor. Somewhere amidst the ranch work he began helping Neil and Brad Ward bale during the hay season.

Rod met his wife Leslie Denise Hendricks Williams in 1978 through mutual friends. The relationship quickly matured, and they were wed on April 14, 1979. Soon after they had their first child, a son, they named Evan, and further grew the family with the addition of their daughter Carrie. The family stayed in the Wapello area and never moved more than a couple of miles from Rod’s parents after the children were born. As the children grew up, Rod was eager to welcome the addition of Carrie’s four children to the family – Paige, Legion, Emma, and Ivy. They each enjoyed time with their grandpa.

Rod was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith was fierce, and it never wavered.

Rod is survived by his wife Denise, son Evan Williams, his daughter Carrie (Michael) Burnett, his father Spencer (Andrea) Williams, his two brothers Darrel Williams, and Brian (Toni) Williams, and a sister Marie (Brad) Findlay, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and many loved extended family members.

Rod was preceded in death by his mother Juanita, both sets of grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many other loved ones.

Service will be held at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave, Blackfoot, Idaho. A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021. Family will meet at 10:00 am, with services following at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Grove City Cemetery.
