Spc. Micheal D. Brown of Williamsburg, Kansas grew up in Emporia and also lived at Little Rock, Ark., moving to Williamsburg in 1997 where he graduated from Williamsburg High School in 2005. He enlisted in the United States Army in November 2004 in the Delayed Entry Program attending basic training at Fort Jackson February 2005 and advanced individual training at Fort Rucker, Ala. He is a graduate of the 15P course and combat lifesaver course. He was a TOC NCOIC as a PFC while attached to the 82nd Medical Company with which he was deployed for OIF III. He redeployed with the 82nd Med in November 2006. Upon redeployment he was assigned to HHC, 1-1 ARB and was currently deployed with them in support of OIF 07-09. He was attached to TF Odin, an unmanned aerial vehicle unit. He served with Operation Iraqi Freedom III from November 2005 to November 2006 and Operation Iraqi Freedom IX from September 2007 to Oct. 16, 2007. His awards and decorations include: Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Wheeled Vehicle Drivers Badge, Aviation Crewman Badge and Rifle Sharpshooter Qualification Badge. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal posthumously. He was a member of the Ottawa Community Church. He died in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, of a non-combat related illness after being transported from Tikrit,Iraq on Oct.15. He was preceded in death by his father; a grandfather, William G. Smith, uncles, Roy Brown and Lonnie Smith; and a great-grandmother Walker. He was 20.
