Former Warner Robins Fire Chief, Ernest W. Wood, passed into the hands of his Lord, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. He was 94 years old.

Chief Wood was born on June 28, 1926, to the late Ernest W. and Annie Reynolds Wood, in Gainesville, Georgia.

He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II.

On April 14, 1946, Chief Wood wedded the love of his life, Margaret Ann Stewart, and together they settled in the middle Georgia area.

He dedicated 27 years serving his community, 25 of which he was a respected Fire Chief with the Warner Robins Fire Department, and two of those years as the Public Safety Director.

Chief Wood was a former and longtime member of Central Baptist Church and most recently a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Warner Robins. In addition, he was a longtime Mason with the Middle Georgia DL Lodge #756 in Bonaire, a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and he founded the Warner Robins VFW Post 6605's current location. A member of Waterford Golf Club, Chief Wood was always ready for a game of golf with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe T. Wood, Sr.

Chief Wood is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Margaret Stewart Wood of Bonaire; children, Terry Wood (Gail), Thomas Wood (Tami) and Nancy Miller (Lee), all of Bonaire and Ernie Wood (Beth) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Gia Graddy, Miranda Stewart, Chad Wood, Asa Harp, Elizabeth Wood, Lee Miller III, Bryan Miller, Bonnie Miller, Aimee Megahee, Margaret Jennings, Garrett Jennings, Amanda Stephens and Golden Jordan; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Central Baptist Church, with his grandson, Rev. Chad Wood, Dr. Owen Bozeman and Rev. Casey Matthews officiating. Chief Wood will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.
