Joyce Ann Sherlock was born May 17, 1942, in Olean, NY, to Theodore and Rose (Burrows) Sherlock, on the family farm. She was the youngest of 7 children. Joyce graduated in 1960, from Salamanca High School in NY.
Right after high school she joined the U.S. Navy.
On May 5, 1962, she married Richard Shaw of Ostrander, MN in Waukegan, IL. The couple had 3 children and later divorced.
She married Donald Duncan in Kingman, AZ, in 1987. Donald passed away in 1995.
Joyce moved to Chatfield in 2004 to be with her daughter Patty.
Cooking was a big part of Joyce’s life, she cooked in the Navy, hospitals, nursing homes, Chatfield High School, and local day care centers.
She was an avid reader, liked crocheting, needle point and coloring.
Joyce is survived by her 3 children; Michael (Kath) Shaw of Rochester, Michele (Dale) Marks of Clay Center, KS, and Patricia Ballinger of Las Vegas, NV; 5 grandchildren, Crystal, Kimberley, and Aaron Marks, Amanda Smith, and Garrett Ballinger; 9 great grandchildren and one on its way in May; 2 sisters, Gladys, Leola; brother Kenneth.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, and 3 brothers.
A private family burial will be held in the spring of 2021, with military honors, at the Sumner Center Millet Cemetery in rural Racine, MN.
