William Preston was the son of son of Adam Preston and Isabel (Braithwaite) Preston, of Giggleswick, Yorkshire (baptized there January 28, 1590/1). He married Elizabeth Sale, 11 Oct 1613, in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, England. William, his second wife, Mary, and his children migrated to New England in 1635 during the Puritan Great Migration on the ship, "Truelove." (On 19 Sep 1635, "W[illia]m Preston," aged 44, "Marie Preston," aged 34, "Eliz[abeth] Preston," aged 11, "Sara Preston," aged 8, "Marie Preston," aged 6, & "Jo[hn] Preston aged 3, were enrolled at London as Passengers for New England on the Truelove.) First settled in Dorchester; moved to New Haven in 1640. Died between 0 Jul 1647 (date of will) & 30 Aug 1647 (date of inventory).
