Ila Mae Sandy, 81, of Wilmington, died Friday, August 13, 2021, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 20, 1940, in Wilmington, NC, to the late Clifford Landress and Helen Marie Caison.

Ms. Sandy loved flowers, animals and birds, in that order! She was a member of the Hobby Greenhouse Organization. She was a lifelong member of Sunset Park Baptist church and was very active in all activities, especially visiting the sick and homebound until her health prevented such activities. She loved to bowl and spent many years at the bowling alley on several teams. She loved traveling to tournaments out of town which gave her and her friends the chance to buy more flowers and shop! She volunteered at the Nunnelee Center for Children for several years. Ms. Sandy was a very smart business lady and owned several businesses in her lifetime. She was a devoted football, baseball and soccer Grandma and missed very few games that her grandsons played in. Before her husband died, they enjoyed going on cruises and trips anytime they could.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Earl Sandy, Sr.

Survivors include her sons, Bobby and Talmsi Schultz of Wilmington, NC and Bruce Earl and Katrina Sandy, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; daughters, Teena and Mike Roeder of Wilmington/Wingate, NC and Sherri and Billy Hagewood of Wilmington, NC; Grandchildren, Rob of Wilmington, NC, Kelly and Jamie, Cindy of Maryland, Chelsea and Travis of Wingate NC, Keri of Chichicastenga, Guatemala and Stephen Hagewood of Wilmington, NC and great-grandchildren, Bailey, Bradley, Savannah, Tanner, Kelsy, Finley, Layton, Acre, Liberty, and Zander. And of course one great-granddog - Luna

A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Sunset Park Baptist Church.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Special thank you to her extraordinary friends, Haily Bostic and Steve Minton; Dr. Burkett and staff; Dr Schreiber and Staff; Northchase Rehab and the PT Crew (especially Julian and Jennifer) and lastly the amazing staff (especially Antonio and Amanda) at the ICU unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center that helped walk this family through a very tough week with much compassion and care.

You may honor our mom's memory by contributions to the following - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Humane Society or Sunset Park Baptist Church.
