Dorthy Frances Jones, age 79, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born January 4, 1942, in Chesapeake, Missouri, the daughter of Carrol Francis and Jewel (Gardner) Roach.

Dorthy was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and attended Cosmetology School in Springfield and worked for Doris Daniel’s Beauty Salon in Mt. Vernon. She was a custodian and worked in the snack bar for Mt. Vernon School’s. Dorthy played softball in the Mt. Vernon Women’s Softball League and served as an officer.

On March 23, 1962, she married Jim Jones in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Dorthy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim; one daughter, Kelly Holcomb and her husband, Tim, of Mt. Vernon; one grandson, Clint Holcomb and his wife, Katelynn, of Springfield, Missouri; three sisters, Mary Ann Johnson and her husband, Ray, of Marionville, Missouri, Virginia Styron and her husband, Emery, of Riverside, Iowa, and Norma Stewart of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Clyde Roach and his wife, Donna, of Mt. Vernon and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.

Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, Carrol and Jewel; son, Marlin Jones; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and J.W. Garringer; brother, Eddie Roach, and brother-in-law, Cleatus Stewart.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with burial to follow at the Campground Cemetery in Chesapeake. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021, in the funeral home chapel.

Due to Covid 19, the family has requested for those attending the services to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
