She was born on February 4, 1935 in Pickett County, Tennessee, the daughter of Lansden and Omogene (McDonald) Smith and graduated from Pickett County High School in 1953.
On September 24, 1955 in Tennessee, she married Noel Garrett.
Betty was a housewife and loving wife and mother. She was an active member of Cowan Christian Church and the Ladies Aid Society.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, shopping and traveling with her husband.
Surviving are one daughter, Shelia Garrett of Muncie; four sisters, Kay Savage, Jane Green and Laura Lewis all of Tennessee and Linda Koger of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 55 years, Noel Garrett on June 12, 2010; two brothers, Bill and Bob Smith; and her beloved beagle, Katie.
Private services will be held with Pastor Larry Delaney and Pastor Phil Rogers officiating, followed by burial at Elm Ridge Cemetery
