Charles Martin Flaherty of Palm Coast, Florida, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather passed peacefully in his sleep and was received by the Lord on February 3, 2021.

He is preceded in death by his parents William J. and Rosemary Flaherty, sister Helen Mattix, brothers Edward, William, and Robert Flaherty and by his infant son Timothy Shawn Flaherty, who died after complications at birth in 1958.

He was the loving husband of Joan Ruth (Dawley) Flaherty and a devoted father to his 6 children, Marty (Wanda), Pamela (Tommy), Joanne (Ron), Lisa (Hamilton), Paul (Deborah), and Sean (Mimi), also 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Virginia Pfeffer, Rosemary Klotzbach, and Catherine Wetzel, and brothers John and James Flaherty.

Charles “Chuck” was a funny, intelligent, and charismatic gentleman with a passion for The Lord, his family, children, and grandchildren. He attended Franciscan University of Steubenville and then joined the Navy during the Korean War, which is where he met his beautiful bride. He served in the Navy for 10 years from July 15, 1952 – August 1, 1962. On his discharge papers, his commanding officer wrote, “Flaherty is a remarkably efficient PN. His sense of organization has wrought marvelous changes in ship’s office. His feeling of duty and willingness to work long hours is far above that of the usual sailor. A true asset to his rate, the FISKE, and the Navy.”

He worked for a short time in insurance, and then joined the Tupperware Corporation and worked there for 29 years, retiring as Director of Sales, a position that allowed him to travel the United States and the world. In his retirement, he continued to stay busy working as a Realtor for Gateway Mountain Real Estate in North Carolina, and Trademark Realty Group in Palm Coast. When not working, he was President of the Rotary Club of Twinsburg, Ohio, Treasurer of the Gateway Mountain Property Owners Association, Board Member of the Orlando Opera, served as a Eucharistic Minister. He loved playing cards with his family and was known to enjoy a Rusty Nail now and then.

Chuck was the quintessential professional and had the kindest of hearts. When you had a conversation with Chuck, you knew he was completely focused on you. His presence and his character rang true with every word that was exchanged. Chuck was a person you were proud to know and everyone who crossed his path left better for it. He will be very missed, but we are confident that Heaven received a tremendous man. He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

A viewing will be held on February 27, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Parkway Palm Coast, FL 32164. Chuck will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, March 1.
