Glen William Parker, 75, passed away at home on February 8th, 2021. He was born in Findlay, Ohio, on April 26, 1945, to the late Helen Mary (Huffman) Parker and Francis Purcil Parker. He was twice married and divorced, first to Ruth Elaine Black and to Veronica Kay Wagner (Grubb). Glen grew up on his family farm, north of Vanlue, where he helped his father farm and care for over four dozen ponies. When not fixing fences, Glen was an active athlete and all conference football player. Farming was a passion for Glen as he continued to maintain the family farm from his early days, through his father’s passing in 1970 and his mother’s passing in 1989, up to the present day. While no long raising livestock, Glen could be found tinkering with his beloved Alice Chalmers D17, mowing the entire ditchbank in his lawn tractor, or poking around his woods. Graduating from Vanlue High School in 1963, Glen spent one year at Bluffton College before joining Garwood Industries. There he worked in production and maintenance before joining Ohio Bell Telephone Company where he worked for over a decade. Finally, Glen worked for several trucking companies before retiring from Linde in Fostoria, hauling liquid oxygen, argon, and nitrogen to hospitals and manufacturing plants all over Ohio. Glen was a devoted father, first to his eldest son Michael David Parker (1971-1974), and later to his two sons from his second marriage, David and RJ. In addition to his two children, Glen was absolutely bewitched by his granddaughter, Lulu, who could do no wrong, and should absolutely be given all the sugar and candy in the house. Glen also stood in for Santa Claus to answer thousands of children’s requests for the Fostoria Rail Preservation Society, where he delighted in introducing children to the magic of Christmas. Glen is survived by sons David William (Nichole) Parker of Rock Island, Illinois, and Robert Joseph (Emily) Parker of Findlay, Ohio, one granddaughter Lux Lucille (Lulu) Parker, one grandchild on the way, as well as a sister Doris Decker, Findlay, niece Debbie Decker of Osseo, Wisconsin, and nephews Brad Decker of and Chris Decker both of Arcadia, and many great- and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition, Glen is survived by countless round tables in restaurants from Fostoria to Bucyrus to Findlay where he could be found digesting the news of the day alongside the daily special. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Purcil and Helen Mary Parker, and son Michael David Parker. An avid fan of genealogy, Glen could not only recite the names and spouses of each of his dozens of cousins, he could remember details about their lives, down to the names of their hunting dogs. When asked how he knew a casual acquaintance or why he voted for a particular township trustee, Glen would inevitably state “he’s a cousin” and leave the conversation at that. Glen was also a recovering alcoholic, practicing sobriety since 1994. He took great pride in his sobriety and worked with the organization to help men and women recover their dignity, pride, and self-worth through the 12 step program. Never wanting to force the program on others, he urged them to learn from his example and reach out for a helping hand when times get tough. Prior to the Covid lockdowns, Glen’s time was spent watching high school athletes in Volleyball, Basketball, Football, and Baseball. If he didn’t know you, or your parents, Glen could always recall a passing conversation with your grandparents at a county fair or livestock auction. Glen also was a true fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes and took great pride in recalling the time Woody Hayes coached, including Hayes punching a Clemson player in 1979. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, February 12, 2021 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Pastor Josh Cravens will be officiating. Burial will follow at Van Horn Cemetery. Finally, his sons would like anyone reading this to know that he was the absolute best dad and grandfather and will be missed terribly. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coldren-Crates Funeral Home and online condolences can be shared with the family by visiting coldrencrates.com.
