He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Smith, and his son, Billy Edward Smith.
He is survived by his son, James Patrick Smith; his grandchildren: Elissia Porter, James Patrick Smith Jr., Nick Smith, Troy Smith; and his many beloved great grandchildren.
Originally from Winnfield, LA, Billy served in the Louisiana National Guard before joining the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Alexandria, a short thirty miles away from his hometown. He married Doris Jean Beaumont and had a wedding on base in the Officer's Club. The wedding was attended by a couple hundred people on base.
He moved his family to Houston in the sixties and started working for Fruehauf Trailer Corporation. He worked for Fruehauf Trailer Corporation as an accountant for the branch office in Houston. He retired from Fruehauf and became a full time grandparent. As a Papal, he helped raise and take care of all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Family was important to Billy, his favorite time of year was Thanksgiving and Christmas. For the last forty years, Billy would cook his famous cornbread dressing and make a feast that fed the family for days after. He loved getting together monthly to play games, his favorite card game was strawberry bridge.
Billy was a member of Porter First Baptist Church and enjoyed attending the Sunday service, Wednesday bible study, and his Sunday School class.
Billy loved to fish and would not be deterred even by a large alligator in the Sheldon reservoir.
He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
