Mr. Ray died Sunday in Tyler following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 31, 1897, in Smith County, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a World War I veteran and was cited by President Woodrow Wilson and received two Purple Hearts for his Army service. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1799 of Tyler.
Mr. Ray was pioneer rose nursery man and initiated the packaged rose bush and the marketing of cut rose blooms. He also was one of the organizers of Lindale State Bank and served on the board of directors during its early years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth McClenny Ray, Lindale; one son, Kenneth Ray, Grand Saline; two daughters, Mrs. June Epp and Mrs. Sara Waggonner, both of Tyler; and 11 grandchildren.
