Billy Ray Kennedy was born on July 24, 1943, in Brewton, AL and died on January 30, 2021 at his home in Fairhope, AL. He is predeceased by his parents Charlie Oneal Kennedy and Mary Octavia Whitehead Kennedy, his sister Louise Kennedy (Wallace) Fincher and his brother Carlton Oneal Kennedy.
He is survived by his wife Pamela A. Jenkins whom he married on Dauphin Island on August 3, 2001, Sugar Baby his beloved Labrador and a brother, Richard Kennedy (Mary-deceased).
He grew up in the Mobile and Baldwin county area and attended C F Vigor High School. Billy was a veteran of the US Navy and was a jet mechanic with the VF21 Fighter Squadron. He served aboard the USS Midway CV41 in the WestPac and was honorably discharged on March 08, 1963.
Two of his lifelong passions were auto racing and the water. Billy was a winning driver of the #86 car at the Mobile and Pensacola Speedways in the 70’s. Billy also loved fishing and cruising. He and his wife cruised more than 10,000 miles over 14 years and did 16 states and Canada completing “America’s Great Loop” in their beloved trawler “Godspeed” on November 7, 2011.
He was a member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church, Koinonia Sunday School Class, the American Legion Post 199, United States Power Squadrons, Marine Trawler Association and America’s Great Loop Cruiser’s Association.
