Velva-Jo Johnson passed peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 86. She was born to Allen and Mildred Cooper in Cushing, OK on November 3, 1934. Velva-Jo graduated from Rogers High School in 1952. She met the love of her life, Donald W. Johnson at Phillips University and they were married on September 4, 1955.

Velva-Jo served as a kindergarten teacher for three decades, most of the time in the Tulsa Public School system. After retirement, Don and Velva-Jo moved to Fort Smith, AR to be close to their oldest grandchildren. They moved back to Tulsa in 1999. Velva-Jo was active at church, serving at East Tulsa Christian Church, Central Christian Church in Fort Smith, and later, Cedar Ridge Christian Church in Broken Arrow. She enjoyed working in children’s ministry, mission’s ministry, and she led a women’s Bible study in her home for many years. Her passion was her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Velva-Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Mildred Cooper, infant sister Peggy Sue Cooper, and her devoted husband of 52 years, Donald W. Johnson.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Loy and Deanie Johnson of Tulsa, Barry and Robin Johnson of Stillwater, eight grandchildren, Lexi and husband Spenser Bolte, Ian and wife Bethany Johnson, Rhett and wife Elisa Johnson, Lenox Johnson, Raife Johnson, Sophie Johnson, Audrie Johnson, Hollis Johnson, and great granddaughter Milly Bolte.
