It was a beautiful Spring Day on May 11, 1946, in Limestone County, that Walter Jones Franklin, "Jody" arrived as the firstborn child and only son to Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Elizabeth Franklin. Later, GOD BLESSED Thomas and Elizabeth with two beautiful girls to complete the Franklin Family. Both of his doting parents preceded him in death.

From birth, Jody was a boundless bundle of energy and enthusiasm; traits that enamored him to the world and inhabitants thereof. In the era of Jody's nascent years, times were hard for the African-American family. Children were needed to work the fields to help care for the family. Thus, due to his responsibilities to work the fields, he attended Toney Elementary School, Harvest, AL part-time and completed sixth grade. However, though his formal education was truncated, he acquired PhD in life lessons. He was always a hard worker and enjoyed working outdoors and with his hands. He exploited his love of the outdoors to establish a long career in construction maintenance: concrete finishing, building, landscaping and swimming pools.

Jody worked hard and was known to live life to the fullest. His slick moves on the dance floor are legendary from Cleveland, Ohio to Huntsville, AL. And, the name Jody, well, his acquisition of that name attests to his love of the good life. In addition to his good looks and undeniable charm, Jody used his culinary skills to impress the ladies in his life. Jody Franklin was an impeccable dresser whose styles were envied by many, but matched by none. And, he was an avid fisherman and gardener. Jody was not one to start trouble, but he took pride in protecting his family and loved ones.

In his later years, Jody capitulated to the yearning for a more stable lifestyle and found lasting love with his life partner, Ms. Victoria McGinnis. She was there to love him and care for him too.

In his life long journey, Jody was the epitome of good health. To his loving family, he appeared invincible. Yet, in the still of the evening of February 5, 2021, GOD searched the Heavens and found an eternal resting place for our beloved Jody. Rest in Peace, Jody, and thanks for all the love that you shared with this world.

Left here to join him later, his devoted sisters: Tommie Mae Franklin Meadows (Sam), Cleveland, Ohio and Wanda Faye Franklin Vaughn (Michael), Huntsville, AL, and Georgia Hobbs, Huntsville, AL; a loving daughter, Debbie Ann Jefferson (Larry), Cleveland, Ohio; two supportive sons: Runny Harper and Walter Eugene Carter, both of Huntsville, AL; his dedicated life partner, Victoria McGinnis, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren: Treo Jefferson (Ressie) and Terrell Jefferson; great-grandchildren: Deas'Ja Jefferson, Dashya Jefferson, Donuha Jefferson, Daisey Jefferson, Can Ron Jefferson, Pariz Jefferson, Tarvoir Jefferson and Dahlia Jefferson; and god-daughter, Ann Smith; an uncle and a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and friends.

Graveside service will be 12:00 noon, Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Meadowlawn Garden of Peace (450 Mount Lebanon Road Toney, AL 35773) with Bishop Aaron Jones officiating.

Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2021 and 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Royal Funeral Home.
