Joel Blackwell, 94, an honored Veteran and Irving, Texas resident passed away February 7, 2021. He was born August 21, 1926 in Oak Cliff, Texas to Joel Lawrence and Mildred (Tucker) Blackwell.

Joel was a member of the Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge #1218 AF & AM, the American Legion and the VFW Post 2494.

He proudly served his country in the National Guard, the United States Navy as well as the United States Army. During his service in the U.S. Army, he served for 2 ½ years in Asia. Joel was a member of the troops that were one of the first to enter Japan after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. During his tour, He served as a bodyguard for the then Emperor Hirohito. Joel enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a loving husband, father grand father and friend.

Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruby Lee Blackwell; sons, Bruce and Joel, grand children, great grand children along with numerous extended family and friends.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at a later date at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas...BRFH
