James “Sonny” Crabtree, 71 of Taylorville, formerly of Quincy, died at 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing & Rehab. Jim was born in Quincy on February 20, 1949, the son of Harvey & Marjorie (Drummond) Crabtree. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church. For most of his career, he worked on bridge construction for the railroad, which led to an endless love for trains. Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed politics. He was a fan of all kinds of sports. Jim was a generous man with a big heart, and he would have done anything for anybody. He loved his family deeply and he will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his four daughters: Misty (Jimmy) Titus of Flagstaff, AZ; Angie Bruce of Chatham; Leah (John) Dunbar of Carmel, IN; Brooke (Jim) Foose of Quincy; 11 grandchildren; siblings: Daniel Crabtree, Stephen Crabtree, Elizabeth Akers; Christine Foster, Harvey “Bubby” Crabtree, Mark Crabtree; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Terry Crabtree.

Following through with his wish, Jim will be cremated and there will be no service. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Christian County Senor Citizens, 701 West Adams, Taylorville, IL 62568, an organization that was so helpful to Jim throughout the years.
