Jerry Lewallen died on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at his home in Wellington at the age of 88.

He was born the son of James and Irma (Thompson) Lewallen on December 24, 1932, in Paige City. Jerry graduated from Dodge City High School and continued his education at Dodge City Junior College. He then transferred and graduated from Ft. Hays State University. On August 2, 1953, he and Betty J. Perkins were united in marriage in Kingsdown. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2003.

Jerry was employed as a meat cutter at numerous Dillon’s Food Stores in Kansas and retired from the Wellington store following a 43-year career. In retirement, Jerry and Betty enjoyed traveling the country and going on cruises. He looked forward to the annual ski trips to the mountains with his family and friends. Jerry loved wood carving and was known for his duck carvings. He and his son remodeled many houses together. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather that will be missed by all that knew him.

Survivors include his son, Rod Lewallen (Jeanie Murray) of Wellington; son, Richard Lewallen of Wellington, grandchildren: Natasha Pyle (Dan) of McPherson, Rowdy Lewallen of Encinitas, California, Rosalyn Lillis (Helm) of Kansas City, Missouri, Summer Lewallen of Livingston, Texas, Sierra Patterson of Livingston, Texas, Shandra Karo (Julius) of Houston, Texas and Joey Lewallen of Wellington along with numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Irma Lewallen; wife, Betty Lewallen; son, Ron “Bub” Lewallen and two brothers, Jimmy and Johnny Lewallen.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2021, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Please adhere to the current public gathering guidelines by wearing a face mask when in attendance.

Graveside services for Jerry will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2021, at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington.

A memorial has been established in his name and loving memory with Interim Hospice, 105 South Washington Avenue, Wellington 67152. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
