Roy worked for the family business, Anderson Water Services from the time he was 16 until 1992 when he took a job at American Electric. In 1995 he left American Electric and started his career with the McCook Housing Authority as a maintenance supervisor where he worked until his retirement in 2020. Roy also worked at Sarge’s Bar in McCook as a part-time bartender and handyman.
Roy was a member of the McCook Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #7269 and the McCook Elks Lodge # 1434. He served the Indianola community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for many years. Roy enjoyed driving all the backroads and meeting up with friends during his daily route stops at the bowling alley, Sarge’s, and Fullers Restaurant.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sisters, Beverly Liess and husband, Jerry, and Jane Pickering and husband, Jerry; nieces: Traci Hoke and husband, Tim and their son, Josh; Amy Gerloff and husband, Lewis and their children, Morgan, Ryan, and, Eric; Julie Meyer and husband, Doug and their children, Katie, Clara, and Molly; and Jami Baker and husband, Brandon and their children, Dereck, Jace, Bailey, and Stella; relatives from Newaygo, Michigan: aunt, Marilyn (Anderson) Melvin; cousins: Sherry and Jamie McGregor, Cindy and Scott Blamer, Brian and Yvonne Melvin, Jackie Knight, and Sarah Rodriguez.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. (CT), Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska with Dave Davidson officiating. A private family inurnment will follow services in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Indianola, Nebraska. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska is entrusted with arrangements.
