Leo Jesse Brooks was born on January 16, 1930, near Nicholson School (9 miles south of Shamrock, Texas) to Clarence and Maggie Brooks. Leo married the love of his life, Mary Stockton, on April 23, 1955, in Clovis, New Mexico. The two were married for 60 years and had four children. Leo retired from Lonestar Gas after thirty years of service. He surrendered to the ministry at age 33, and pastored 54 years, with the last 35 years of his ministry spent pastoring at Trinity Baptist Church in Breckenridge, Texas. Leo loved his family, his God, and his ministry. He touched numerous lives and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his children, Wade Brooks and wife Robyn of Breckenridge, Rexie McCann of Tuscola, and Shane Brooks and wife Missy of Granbury; eleven grandchildren, Jessica McGhee, Dustin Brooks, April Whitaker, Brianna McCann, Cody Bailey, Johnny Woodall, Blake Coburn, Braden Brooks, Cassey Mitchell, Aaron Brooks, and Amanda Brooks; as well as 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Brooks; son, Dale Brooks; son-in-law, Robert McCann; grandson, Cody Hillock; along with five siblings and his parents.
The family requests that memorials be made to The Ridge Cowboy Church in Breckenridge or Meals on Wheels in Breckenridge. Donations can be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office.
