Verna was born on January 10, 1934 in St. Charles, Virginia, and was the daughter of Jack and Rosa Bledsoe Barnette, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and had worked as a bookkeeper in Detroit, Michigan. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stacy Brown; brothers, Ervin Barnette, Lester Barnette and Leeroy Barnette; sister, Mildred Barnette.
Survivors include: two daughters, Theresa Brown and Judy Jones (John), both of Lexington; two sons, Stacey "Teddy" Brown (Tina) and Jody Brown (Sarah), both of Lexington; grandchildren, Cameron Brown, Regan Brown, Hayden Brown, Ty Brown, Logan Brown, Armanda Brown, and Leland Brown, Zachery Jones, Erick Jones and Rainey Jones; four sisters, Ann Rader, Marie West, Ethel Stapleton, and Merlene Stapleton; three brothers, General Barnette, Charles Ray Barnette, Lester and Glen Barnette.
A funeral service will be held at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 with Bro. Cecil Burns officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
