Elmer Gene Woods (Buddy), age 82, passed peacefully to his eternal Heavenly home on Friday, February 5, 2021 in Paducah, KY. He will be sadly missed but his life will be celebrated for years to come by his loving family and friends.
Before retiring, Gene was a butcher and grocery store manager by day, and proudly served in the Tennessee National Guard. His true passion, however, was with his band of over 40 years, originating in the 1960s. Gene Woods and the Decathlons was known to be the most requested band in his area. He was frequently accompanied on stage by his son Stevie Gene and sister, Moetta. He entertained a wide variety of audiences during the years and released two country singles early in his career.
After retiring from his band in 2005, the Lord lead Gene in a different direction. He left the band behind and starting entertaining in local nursing homes in Paducah as well as his local church, at the time, Bryant Ford Baptist and his relationship with his Creator strengthened.
He is survived by his children, Connie Jean Woods Falk (Stephanie), Stevie Gene Woods (Erica), and Mary Charlene “Shorty” Woods; siblings, Dorothy Ann Cagle (Walter), Mary Lou Burrows, Moetta Melton, Cozette Moody (Larry), and Betty Jo Howell (Steve); and numerous beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Taylor Woods as well as his first wife, Lois Faye Gurley Chenoweth; and parents, Connie V. and Estelle Renfroe Woods.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 10 at 1PM at Reed’s Chapel in Lexington with burial to follow in Bible Grove Cemetery.
