Barbara Ann Neilson
June-03-1936 - January-31-2021

Barb epitomized an independent spirit. Born June 3rd, 1936 in Ottawa and passed away January 31, 2021 in Smiths Falls. Loved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Milton. Beloved daughter of the late Allan H. and the late Maud (Lyons) Neilson, originally from Ramsay Township, and ultimately, Westboro. Much loved by her sister, M. Elizabeth (Betty) Clermont and her brother, John A. Neilson (deceased), and fondly remembered by her stepsons Bob Jr., Barry, and Andrew Milton, by her nephew Dave Clermont, and nieces Lisa Clermont-Powell, Catherine Neilson, and Sue Neilson. Barb received her red rose at the 1958 graduation from the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing and finished her career as a nursing care-coordinator. Her love of caring for people spanned the country and the decades; she spent many years as a nurse in Vancouver before coming home to care for her parents, and marry her husband. An avid traveller and genealogist, Barb is remembered as an exceedingly generous, extremely intelligent person who kept abreast of news and politics to the end. First and foremost, however, Barb will be remembered as ‘hip’, and ‘chic’ (according to her graduation yearbook), whose flare and style were evident even in her nursing whites. To the end Barb maintained control of her destiny. Private burial at the Auld Kirk in Almonte will occur at a later date. In remembrance of Barb, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
