COUNCIL GROVE, Kan.
Melvin W. "Mel" Pio. 87, Council Grove, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at his home.

He was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Manhattan, Kan.

He was a farmer and retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a section hand in 1973.

Mr. Pio was a member of the Twin Lakes Antique Car Club, and the Card Club, Bushong, Kan.

On Jan. 25, 1933, he married Anna McLaughlin in Emporia, Kan. She died in 1940.

He then married Agnes Behrens in Topeka, Kan., on March 19, 1942. She died in 1992.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, Julian and Maggie; five brothers, Al, Clarence, Frank, Jim, and Jess; three sisters, Louise Atchison, Marie Monfort, and Sarah Clampet; and a grandchild.

Surviving: two daughters, Willetta Krause, Elwood, Kan., and Kelly Fleming, Edgerton, Kan.; two sons, Rex, Edgerton, Kan., and Steve, Allen, Kan.; a sister, Elizabeth Jackson, Council Grove; a brother, Gil, Long Beach, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial: 2 p.m. today, Bushong Cemetery. Arrangements: Kendall Funeral Chapel, Council Grove, Kan.
