Danny was born on May 7, 1947 in Madill, OK, the son of Grandalyn (Self) and Robert Wilson. He passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, OK.
Danny was a lifelong area resident. At the age of 16 he joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his service in the Army, he retired from the National Guard. Danny traveled all over the U.S. shooting in several rifle contests where he received “The Governor’s 20” award. After the military he went to work in the oil field with his dad for several years before going to work at Michelin where he retired after 20 years. Danny married Janet Blair on June 26, 1982 in Gainesville, TX.
Danny loved doing custom leatherwork and whittling everything from chains to dolls. He was an avid outdoorsman. Danny loved camping, fishing, deer hunting, and elk hunting. He looked forward to his hunting trips in Arizona and Colorado. Danny was also a volunteer for the Madill Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Wilson of the home; son, Gregory J. Wilson of Madill; step-son, Cougan Collins and wife Erica of Ardmore; sisters, Helen Garrett and husband Kenneth of Tyler, TX, and Ruth Ann Richards of Madill; step-sisters, Janet Young and husband Carl of Amarillo, TX, and Anita Harvey of New Mexico; brother, Tom Wilson and wife Geri of Arizona; step-brothers, Ronnie Rice of Wyoming, and Bill Rice and wife Karen of Indiana; grandchildren, Laura Wilson, Courtney Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Nathan Wilson, Isaac Wilson, Sarah Collins, and Summer Collins; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Grandalyn and Robert Wilson, and an infant sister, Carrie Annette Wilson.
Casket bearers are Tommy Orr, Charlie Griffith, Les Thoroughman, Willy Self, Dennis Self, and Byron Self. Honorary bearers are nieces and nephews.
