Gerard "Jerry" Clyde Valentine of Jackson, MI went peacefully at the ripe young age of 93 to be with the Lord early in the morning on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 with his beloved wife by his side. Jerry was born in Jackson, MI on August 19, 1926 to Lynden and Rosamond Valentine. Jerry was a decorated Seaman 1st Class World War II veteran, serving on the USS LST 123 in the US Navy from 1944-1946. Upon return to civilian life, Jerry returned to his home town of Jackson, MI and obtained his GED. He worked in several different factories including the Jackson crank shaft and then owned and operated Jerry's Sinclair service, a gas station on Michigan Ave until it was demolished in 1956 to make way for the construction of the new bridge where 127 crosses East Michigan Ave. Following the closure of his gas station, Jerry became an independent trucker and hauled house trailers traveling to different parts of the country until settling down as he proudly served as a road grader and supervisor for the Jackson County Road Commission from 1962 until he retired in 1992. Jerry fully enjoyed the retired life. He could be found passionately working in his garden, fishing, hunting, taking care of his horses, gathering to eat with his friends and family, and spending time with his grandbabies and great grandbabies. Jerry was a die-hard Spartan fan and never gave up hope that his favorite Detroit Tigers would win the World Series. Jerry is survived by his wife of 30+ years, Elsie Mae Valentine of Jackson, MI. His children: Michael (JoAnne) Valentine, Trudy (Roy) Davey, David Valentine, Heidi Roberts, Dale (Tina) Roberts, and Bruce (Cheryl) Roberts. His grandchildren: Korey (Andrea) Roberts whom he helped raise, Cassandra (Dr. Michael) Gaona, Nichole (Calvin) Roberts, Zachary Roberts, Benjamin Roberts, and Tammy (James) Drinkwine. Great-grandchildren: Luke, Jeremiah, Elizabeth, Gabriel, James Jr., Zion, Kaiden, Cameron, Chase, Zoey, Sierra, Alex, Elly and Charlie. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Lynden and Rosamond Valentine, Brother Tom Valentine, and close uncle Sidney Valentine. Jerry was loyal to his New Horizons Community Church family (formerly known as First Church of God) and was instrumental in building the church on Lansing Ave. He was baptized in 1962 at the same time as his oldest son, Michael.
