Melvin Wright "Mel " Brooks, 82 years of age, departed this life on February 5th, 2021 in Somerset, Kentucky.
Mel was born at Tuscumbia, Alabama on October 30th, 1938, son of the late Basil and Catherine Wright Brooks. If you knew Mel, you knew he loved everything University of Kentucky. He had the best football tailgates. Some of the best days were spent on his houseboat, "Hello Darlin'". The golf course was his second home. Not to mention Happy Hour at Mel's place. He was loved by so many and loved so many also. Almost anyone could tell a funny story about him.
Mel was survived by one son, Brad (and Jane) Brooks of Somerset, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Madison (and Dylan) Gaskin, Brandon (and Kerri) Brooks, Alliey (and Greg) Witt, Perry (and Alana) Wesley, and Emily (and Cory) Stringer; six great grandchildren, Madeline Brooks, Mason Brooks, Brayden Brooks, Savannah Brooks, Kamden Hughes, and Kristopher Hughes; two brothers, Clayton Brooks of North Carolina and Charles Brooks of Cadis, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil Brooks and Catherine Brooks; his wife, Sonya Berger Brooks, who departed this life on December 28th, 1996; and one son, Allen Brooks.
Visitations were held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home.
Graveside services were held around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 in Section 38, which is at the rear of the cemetery.
Burial followed in the Somerset City Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.
