Olin was born in the vanished community of Revier near the vanished community of Union Bluff, Hill County, Texas, to the late William Oscar and Bertha (White) Dumas. A lifelong resident of Hill County, he attended school at Arnot, Elm Springs, Lovelace and Brandon before graduating from Hillsboro High School. He also graduated from Burns Commercial College in Dallas. On Jan. 23, 1936, he married Mary Zada Meeks. In 1941, he went to work for Hillsboro State Bank as a teller. During World War II, he entered the U. S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to the bank. He attained the office of executive vice-president prior to his semi-retirement in 1978. Through 1991, he continued to serve the bank as a director and consultant, completing 50 years with the organization. A dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, he served as a deacon and also as Sunday School secretary from January 1952 until June of 2004. In November of 2006, the church honored him for over 40 years of service as treasurer by naming him treasurer emeritus. In addition to his time at the bank, Olin enjoyed farming and raising cattle to help provide for his family. His favorite hobby was work, although he and Zada were serious "42" players.
