Marjorie Jean Prince was born March 14, 1923 to Walter and Orral (Young) Raecke in Central City NE, where she spent her childhood, and was valedictorian of her high school class. On to the University of NE where she earned BA with distinction and Master’s degrees in parasitology working with Dr. Harold Manter. Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and then interned at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and spent the ‘war years’ in Washington D.C. On August 8, 1948, Marjorie Jean was united in marriage to Donald Prince in Central City. His educational path led them to reside in Lincoln and Omaha until he finished medical school. The couple made their home in Minden, NE where he was a family physician, and she was a homemaker, musician, cook, taxi driver for her family, volunteer, and all- around solid citizen of the community.

Growing up during the depression and enduring World War II made her a life-long recycler, and steward of the environment. Even the bags and rubber bands around the daily newspapers were saved and re-used. She was first in the neighborhood to have a compost pile! Campfire Girls organization benefitted from her enthusiasm to educate about the outdoors as she served as state director for a time. Her family was able to enjoy her talents at the piano, organ, guitar and singing in church and home. She was always sharing the value of education, she led Bible studies, taught Sunday School. She was an active leader of Campfire Girls day camps, gave programs for AAUW, P.E.O., active member of Presbyterian Women, Synod of Lakes and Prairies, OES, and various other organizations. Rarely was there an event happening in the church which she did not have a hand. Trips to Lincoln for Husker football games were always on the schedule. An avid reader, she would try to carve out at least a few minutes each day to get some reading done.

Marjorie Jean was always putting the needs of others first, rarely indulging in a few moments for her own enjoyment. However, one time solely for her, was a dream trip down the Mississippi River on the Delta Queen with her mother. A memory maker! Another pleasure was a trip to Germany to meet cousins after years of correspondence. Connections were always treasured.

Marjorie Jean passed away on February 4th, 2021 at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln, NE. She once again joins her parents, brother Dick Raecke, and loving husband Don.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Antonia (Rich) Hughes, Edgewater MD, Marian (Larry) Schmid, Hickman, NE, Ann (Doug) Johnson, Istanbul, Turkey, and son John (Tami) Prince, Bastrop, TX. Brother Bill (Pam) Raecke and sister-in-law Georgia Raecke. Ten grandchildren: John T (Tiffany) Hughes, Matt (Kristie)Hughes, Katie Feldman, Kevin (Caroline) Hughes, Angela (Jonathan)Dahlberg, Jocelyn Johnson, Janelle (Josh) Frederico, Joanna (Jared)Welsh, Nicholas (Lauren)Prince, Lisa (Philip)Runyan. Great grandchildren: John Patrick and Lauren Hughes, Nathan and Vanessa Hughes, Weiler Feldman, James, Alyse and Adelynn Dahlberg, Kaleb and Kayra Frederico, Ben, Henry and Eleanor Prince and Oliver Runyan.
