Raymond Bennett, Sr., was born on December 21, 1939 in Jacksonville, FL and he was proceeded in death by his parents Charles Bennett, Sr. and Geneva Graham, stepfather Robert Graham, sister Joan Rosier, brothers Charles Bennett Jr, and Sylvester E. Bennett, Sr. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of nearly 60 years – Bobbie Bennett; His children: Denise (Jesse) Kennedy, Lydia, Joel (Leah) Bennett, Joanna Bennett, and Raymond A. (Chancey) Bennett Jr; His siblings: Elois Goss, Merdis Pinkey, Sandra MacMurray, Bernadette Shannon, Roxanne Bennett, Gale Carson, Carlton Bennett, and Valerie Williams. Also, he leaves behind grandchildren: Jared (Amanda) Kennedy, Blake (Kaylyn) Kennedy, Jaira, Javan, Ella, and Layla Bennett. Two great-grandchildren: Hazel and Briar Kennedy. Along with a host of supportive in-laws, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Raymond Bennett, Sr. was baptized September 9, 1951. After graduating, he started regular pioneering at age 17 along with his brother Charles Bennett. In 1957, they moved to Tampa Florida to serve where the need was great. While serving the Tampa congregation, he met his future wife, Bobbie Richardson. They married in 1961 and pioneered together for approximately seven years. In 1964, Raymond and his family moved to Lakeland to serve in the original Lakeland South Congregation. There Raymond served as a congregation servant. Eventually, Raymond and his family moved into the Lakeland West Congregation on Brunnell Parkway and from there he had the privilege of seeing the growth of Lakeland as the congregation split several times.
Raymond had a reputation of loving Jehovah’s sheep. He would do what he could for them spiritually, emotionally, physically, and financially. He and his wife were very hospitable and generous. However, Raymond Bennett was never afraid to call “a spade – a spade.” While his counsels were frank, they were well-intended, and his wisdom appreciated.
Although, having a very active life in spiritual matters, Raymond will always be remembered as a devoted spouse, loving father, and grandfather, loyal friend, and a respected member of the community. In fact, around the neighborhood, he was known as “the preacher.” Raymond Bennett always enjoyed his quality time with his family and will be missed. His children appreciate the spiritual legacy that he left behind. He showed how to love Jehovah and follow Jesus’ footsteps, and he always stressed the importance of following Kingdom arrangement.
