On January 18, 2021, at the age of 80, James "Kirby" O'Neal, Jr. passed away at a memory care facility in San Antonio Texas. Kirby was born on August 26,1940 to James and Flossie O'Neal, in Pensacola, Florida. For more than 30 years, Kirby proudly served the federal government in Pensacola, McAllen, Houston, Corpus Christi, Eagle Pass, El Paso, Washington D.C., Great Falls, Mexico City, Denver, and finally San Antonio, where he retired as a Supervisory Special Agent with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Kirby was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Eleanor Melvin and Juliette Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan O'Neal of San Antonio, daughter Patti O'Neal of Houston, stepdaughter Brianne Heywood and husband Bryce, of San Antonio, stepson Don Ritta of Archbold, Ohio, and seven grandchildren. Whether working at the job he loved, hunting all over the world, flying his Piper Tri Pacer, riding his motorcycle, or just sitting and reading, Kirby lived life to the fullest, until Lewy Body Dementia took his freedom and COVID-19 eventually took his life. He kept his dignity and sense of humor throughout his journey and he will truly be missed. A celebration of Kirby's life will be held at a later date when his ashes will be spread in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, one of his all-time favorite places. If you would like to honor Kirby's memory, contributions can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org.
