Mr. Porter Eugene Alexander, age 92, husband of Paula Alexander, and a resident of Iron Bridge Road in Columbia, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points and Mike Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on October 12, 1928 in Maury County, Porter was the son of the late Henry F. Alexander and the late Ola Mai Norman Alexander. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force for a total span of eight years. He married Paula Harris on May 10, 1975. Porter worked thirty years for Monsanto Chemical Company before retiring in 1986. He was the owner and operator of the Golden Eagle in Columbia from 1986-1995. He later worked alongside his sons as a painter. Porter enjoyed showing rabbits and was the 6th South Central District Director of the Holland Lop Club and a member of the Lawrenceburg Rabbit Club. He enjoyed fishing, doing yardwork, and playing outside with his grandson. He was a people person who never met a stranger.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Amanda (Shane Cothran) Alexander of Columbia, TN, Sharon Mitchell of Columbia, TN, Christy Parrish of Boston, MA; brother, Travis (Cathey) Alexander of Lewisburg, TN; and grandchildren: Jon Michael Porter Wright, Justin Alexander, Jason Alexander, Cameron Alexander, Courtney Alexander, Shannon (Shane) Robertson, Michael Mitchell; and several great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons: Ronnie Alexander, Donnie Alexander; sisters: Anna Mai Stanley, Bobbie Sue Odom, Judy Fowler; half sister, Pauline Davenport; brothers: Sammy Alexander, Terry G. Alexander, Henry Tommy Alexander; and granddaughter, Christy Alexander.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Alexander, Justin Alexander, William Alexander, Travis Alexander, Mike Dawson, and Mike Stanley.
