Donald was born to the late Charles Thomas and Eva Johnson Conaway on May, 25, 1932 in Wilmington, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Conaway whom he loved for 62 years.
Donald proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 followed by a 38 year career in Civil Service as an electronics technician that culminated in his retirement from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a Ham Radio Operator as a lifelong hobby and a member and elder of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Donna White (Joel) of Fayetteville and Dawn Conaway of Burgaw; five grandchildren, Brittani Metts (Eric), Robert White (Angela), Brianna Wheeler (Brandon), Savannah Smith and Teighlor Smith; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Eva Johnston and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and Trinity Grove for their love and care for Donald.
A private graveside service will be held in his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or a charity of your choice.
