William R. Dodd, Jr., 76, of Poughkeepsie, New York was sadly taken away from us too soon, due to Covid, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Allen Hospital in Bronx, New York. Born November 8, 1944 in Kingston, New York he was the son of the late William R. and Inez (Van Nostrand) Dodd, Sr. William went to Hurley Elementary School and then moved to New Paltz in 1957, graduating from New Paltz High School in 1962. He attained a Bachelor's Degree in Radio & T.V. Broadcasting from SUNY New Paltz and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida working for W.T. Grant Department Store until they closed. He then managed Dutch Pantry Family Restaurants in Florida and Virginia. In 1992 he returned to New York and was employed as a manager by Catskill Restaurant Group aka Burger King Franchise in Goshen, Monticello and Liberty until his retirement in 2010. William is a Member of Highland Grange #888 and a former Member of Charlottesville-Albemarle Restaurant Association. Survivors include his brother, David W. Dodd of New Paltz, NY; his sister, Marilyn Dodd of New Paltz, NY; and his nephew, William Dodd of Killeen, TX; along with numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Ann Chapman, and his brother, Robert Dodd. Friends may call on Friday February 12, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Copeland-Hammerl Funeral Home, 162 S. Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY 12561. A prayer service will begin at 12 noon, officiated by his nephew, William W. Dodd. The Rite of Committal will follow at Lloyd Cemetery 841 New Paltz Road, Highland NY 12528.
