Obituary
On July 28, 1942, the world stopped spinning briefly and Cliff Jones hopped on to begin his life’s journey. On February 3, 2021, the world stopped spinning again, and Cliff Jones hopped off to begin his eternal journey. During his stay on Earth, he had a wonderful time. Born in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Grady Clifton Jones, Sr. and Luphelia Newsom Jones. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1960 then later graduated Polytechnic Institute- now Louisiana Tech University- with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964. Cliff was an Honor Freshman, a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society, and president of Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Fraternity.
In 1965, he started working for Ingalls Shipbuilding in the Nuclear Power Division, where held various engineering and management positions during the 13 years he was employed. In 1978, he began employment with Singing River Hospital System and served as Director of Plant Engineering and Safety Officer for 21 years until his retirement in 1999. Cliff then continued as a Safety Code Consultant with the Singing River Hospital System for the next 8 years. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Cliff served as a Commodore of Singing River Yacht Club during 1975-1976. He also served as President of the Hospital System Credit Union’s Board for several years.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Barbara Slaughter Jones; sons, Thomas Clifton Jones and David Lampton (Melanie) Jones; grandchildren, Joshua Jones, Carly Jones, Grady Jones, and Benny Jones; brother-in-law, Bruce (Wendy) Slaughter; daughter-in-law, Shanda Holder Jones; and special aunt, Ruth Green; along with many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Cliff requested that you take a loved one out to a FINE restaurant for dinner and drinks in his memory.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor M.J. Kirby officiating. Interment will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama, with Joshua Jones, Bruce Slaughter, Pablo Garcia, Jim Kelly, Vaughn Lampton, Dean Williams, Beaux Livingston, and Rickey Livingston serving as pallbearers.
