Wilma Jean Malone
August 9, 1937 - February 1, 2021

Wilma Jean (McElfresh) Malone, age 83, a native Vernon, Indiana and a resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed from this life on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana.

Wilma was born on August 9, 1937 as the only child of Elizabeth “Betty” (Trapp) McElfresh and Bennie McElfresh. The family moved to Seymour when she was very young where her parents operated a country grocery store and gas station. The family quickly invested in Seymour by building its first motel known as “McElfresh Motel”. Wilma graduated from Shields High School in 1955 and attended Indiana Central Indianapolis before returning to Seymour working as a dental assistant and lab technician for Dr. Robert Anderson DDS and then Dr. Ralph Miller DDS.

IN 1957 she married her childhood sweetheart Richard “Dick” Malone and together they had three children. She was a 52 year member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church until its time of closing and then transferred her membership to United Christian Church, Paris Crossing. She was also a longtime member of the Hayden chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Wilma will forever be remembered as a friendly, outgoing, fun lady that never met a stranger. If you visited Wilma, you would be assured that you would be fed a wonderful meal. The family will forever treasure the memories of her fried chicken, creamed peas, biscuits and gravy followed by her famous “hobo cookies” and homemade ice cream. She loved the outdoors sitting on her porch swing and taking care of her flowers and garden.

Above all that she loved in this life, nothing could compare to the love she had for her family. She was an amazing, selfless mother that was always there for her children. She had a close bond with her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mamaw”. She will always be known as a the “Coolest Mamaw” ever and loved making memories with tea parties, lunch dates and trips to fun places. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and each life that she touched in her own special way.

Wilma is survived by her two sons, Max Malone and his wife Linda of North Vernon, Indiana and Randy Malone and his wife Terri of Greenwood, Indiana. Four Grandchildren, Elizabeth “Peeper” Sherwood and her husband Hunter of San Marcos, California, Michael Malone of Greenwood, Indiana. The twins Ava Malone and Katie Malone of North Vernon, Indiana and one great grandson, Max Sherwood.
