Eileen Elizabeth White
July 29,1925 - Jan. 15, 2021

Eileen White passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 95.
She was born July 29, 1925 in Pipestone, Minn., to Bernard Herchowski and Katherine Griffin. After the early loss of both parents and her brother, Daniel Herchowski, who was killed in the battle of Iwo Jima, she ventured west, and settled in Portland, Ore. She married Ted White in 1948, and gave birth to twins, Kenneth and Kathleen in 1950. She lived in the David Douglas School District since 1950.
She was a loving mother and homemaker, and highly active in her children's lives, taking on positions such as homeroom mother and 4-H leader. She was also a devoted wife who enabled her husband's career success and managed their personal finances. Throughout her life, she was highly dedicated to her church, serving the community, and volunteering for Loaves and Fishes and Meals on Wheels. At one point, she served as President of the Council of Catholic Women. She attended both St. Joseph the Worker and St. Peter Catholic Churches in S.E. Portland.
As a grandmother, she was known for her love of playing games, talking walks and other adventures, and making every holiday extra special. She met all seven of her great-grandchildren, so her long life brought her many rewards.
Travel was a passion, and she took wonderful trips with both her children to England, France, Italy, Israel, Canada and throughout the U.S. She loved her yard full of flowers, and her garden filled with fruits and vegetables. She nurtured many friendships, and lived in her own home until she was 94.
Eileen is survived by her children, Kenneth White and Kathleen Howell; grandchildren, Jason Howell (Katie), Jennifer Tyler (Matt); and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Aidan, Ryan and Lila Howell, and James, Austin and Isla Tyler.
In honor of her wishes, she will be laid to rest in Minnesota where she was born, surrounded by her mother and other extended family members.
She will live on in all of us.
