Gaithersburg, MD- Jane Soucek Coughlin passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 28, 2021 in much the same way she lived her blessed life; enveloped in the love of her children, along with her grandchildren near and far, listening to her beloved music, and lifted in prayer by so many.
Jane was the second of three children born to Zeus "Zeke"and Linda Soucek. Zeke and his brother Apollo, both graduates of the United States Naval Academy, set several Naval flying records in the late 20's. Linda was a talented dancer and performed with the Marx Brothers and in Ziegfeld Follies on Broadway.
The three Soucek siblings, Peggy, Jane and John grew up in Montclair, New Jersey. Jane attended The Kimberly Academy and then Montclair High School, where she met her future husband, Joseph "Joe" Coughlin. She graduated from Marjorie Webster Junior College in 1950.
Jane and Joe were married on March 5, 1955 and by 1959 had three children, Lynda, Curt and Liz. The family lived in Newport, Rhode Island where Lynda was born and then Minneapolis, Minnesota where Curt and Liz were born. They made their permanent home in Bethesda, Maryland where their children and grandchildren would grow up, and where they made lifelong friends and cherished memories.
They were active members of St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church and volunteered at Suburban Hospital. Perhaps Jane's most cherished work outside of her home were the many happy years she spent as a beloved classroom and playground aide at Bradley Hills Elementary School, where her three children and several of her grandchildren attended school.
In their retirement, Joe and Jane purchased their much-loved beach house in Bethany Beach, DE, with a porch that overlooked the Salt Pond. There they were able to enjoy several wonderful summers together before Joe passed away (2001) and where Jane continued to spend many summers.
In 2004, Jane moved to Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD. She spent her time volunteering at the Clothes Closet, assisting with setting up the altar for Mass in the chapel, organizing groups of people for meals in the dining room, and driving friends to various activities. She found great joy in playing her ukulele and singing songs from her day along with her favorite Navy tunes with her Asbury friends in the Diamond building lobby. In her final weeks with her children by her side, she was especially blessed by a wonderful array of kind, loving and capable caregivers to whom her family is indebted.
Jane is survived by her three children, Lynda Ingham (Jim) of Charleston, SC, Curt Coughlin (Jessica) of Derwood, MD, Liz Anderson (Randy) of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, and her brother John Soucek (Suellen) of LaPointe, WI. When Jane passed away, she had 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The family she leaves behind treasure their memories of her and are ever- thankful in the knowledge that she has joyfully joined Joe and the others of her family and friends who have gone before her in Heaven.

Private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on June 27, 2022.
