Virginia L. Gibson Robbins, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her children.

She was born at home on May 1, 1933 in South Hartford to Laurence and Cora (Ward) Gibson.

Jinny graduated from Hartford Central School in 1950 and the Mildred Elley Secretarial School for Girls in 1951. She worked for a short time for the DMV in Hudson Falls. In 1952 she and her friend Joyce drove to Washington DC, where they worked for the Bureau of Naval Personnel at the Naval Annex near the Pentagon.

She met Davis Robbins in DC and they were married on September 27, 1958 in South Hartford. She and the family followed him around the country and the world with Army deployments in Texas, Virginia and twice in Germany. When Sergeant Robbins retired from the Army in 1972, they moved to South Hartford.

Jinny did a few part time jobs such as babysitting, voting machine technician & custodian, and was an unofficial historian for the town of Hartford. Jinny had a remarkable knowledge of all things in the Hartford area, including everyone's family pedigree; "Ask Jinny, she'll know." She was treasurer of the Hartford Yoked Parish church for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed playing in the handbell choir, even though it made her nervous to perform. She was also a Sunday school teacher and the "Sunshine Lady" for the church Women's Fellowship.

She was a Cub Scout den mother and her hobbies included league bowling and handwork. Jinny was an excellent seamstress and was proficient at quilting and embroidery. In her later years she gathered weekly with friends to play cutthroat dominoes. She loved a good crossword puzzle, flowers, bird watching, baseball, a nice country drive and spending time with her family. Her steadfast calm and sense of humor will be sorely missed. If you brought her a beer, make sure it wasn't light.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Davis in 1995, her son Hal in 2012, and her brother Larry in 2020.

She is survived by three sons; Joel (Laura), Kyle (Sally), Darrell (Jodi), four grandchildren; Danika, Alexis, Abigail and Reid, one sister Rebecca (Casey) Arlen, sister-in-law Carolyn Gibson, many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, and Katt, her feline friend.

The authors of this missive apologize to Virginia for any errors in spelling or word usage, which she certainly would point out following the briefest perusal.

A celebration of the life of Virginia Gibson Robbins, will be held from noon until 4:00 on Sunday, July 18. A short service including handbells will be held at noon. Please feel free to come and go as you please. This celebration will be held at the South Hartford, NY Church House at the corner of Routes 40 and 196.

Donations may be made to the Argyle Emergency Squad (15 Sheridan St Argyle NY 12809), Hartford Volunteer Fire Department (PO Box 121 Hartford NY 12838), Tri-County Chapter of the Women's National Farm & Garden Association (Dona Crandall 259 Butler Rd Hampton NY 12837) or The Hartford Yoked Parish (PO Box 40 Hartford NY 12838).
