Mrs. Norma A. Fisher, 88, of Ironton, MO, and formerly of Troy, MO and Alton, IL passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021. She was born on March 31, 1932 in Laurel, Mississippi to Harold and Velma (Lowe) Craft. Norma was the oldest of four siblings. After her schooling, she took a trip with her uncle to Alton, IL. She got a job with the Alton Laundry Co. and worked until she went back home to Mississippi with her uncle. It was while she worked at the laundry that she met her soulmate, Eugene Fisher. He was a student at a Bible College at the time. When she moved back to Mississippi, he wrote letters and the courtship continued. They were married 2 1/2 years later on Sept. 2, 1954 in Laurel, Mississippi. The couple moved to New Mexico where Eugene continued his graduate work. She worked at Roosevelt General Hospital during that time. They were blessed with a daughter, Janet, who was the apple of her eye. Eventually, the family later moved back to Alton, IL. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church and would help whenever needed. Some of Norma's pastimes included cooking, embroidery, and quilting with the First Baptist Quilters of Troy. Her family was so important to her and she loved each and every one of her family members. Norma was a quiet, dignified and gracious lady that was so kind and caring to everyone she met.
Surviving are her devoted husband of 66 years, Rev. Eugene Fisher; her loving daughter, Janet and husband Mitch Ethington of Troy; her adoring grandchildren: Betsy and Rev. Matt Bartig of Troy, Travis and Katie McElroy of Troy; her 10 great-grandchildren: Micah and Jenna Bartig, Jonah Bartig, Titus Bartig, Isaac Bartig, Ezekiel Bartig and Johnathon McElroy, James McElroy, Evelyn McElroy, Adelene McElroy and Sidney McElroy. She is further survived by her three siblings: David T. and Brenda Craft of Laurel, MS, Linda and Charles Legg of Laurel, MS, Kay and Vondell Walters of Laurel, MS; other relatives and friends.
