Jean graduated from Rifle Union High School and was awarded the Reese Cup for academic excellence. After graduating from Cottey College in Nevada, MO, she taught school in Jay Em, WY, and met Darrell Wilson Benshoof. On May 22, 1956, she and Darrell were married in Rifle. They lived on a ranch in Prairie Center near Torrington, WY, then moved to Eureka, MT, where she began her work as a purchasing agent for the U.S. Forest Service. After retiring from USFS in Moscow, ID, they moved to Star Valley, WY, to be near their daughter. They had been living at Lincoln Court in Idaho Falls since 2019 but remained members of the Emmanuel Bible Church in Thayne, WY, where they enjoyed fellowship with other members. They taught Sunday School while living in Moscow. Other activities that she enjoyed were gardening, sewing, hiking, cross country skiing, and fishing. Survivors beside Darrell included: sons Jim (Leona) Benshoof of Beatty, NV, Stephen (Tammy) Benshoof of Huntsville, NC, and Perry (Jackie) Benshoof of Knoxville, TN; brother Joe (Marilyn) Stephens of Elbert, CO; and 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; also preceded by brother Marlin Ray Stephens. Services held Saturday, February 6th at Wood Funeral Home East, officiated by Pastor Tim Moyer of Emmanuel Bible Church.
