Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Alton Collins; son, Gary Lynn Collins; and sisters, Mamie Dell Greer and Myrtle Mize.
Those left to celebrate her life are son, Bobby Collins (Ellen); daughter, Shari Marcum (Mike). Also surviving her are eight grandchildren, Jesse Collins (Anne), Adam Collins (Vanessa), Candace Collins (Rhonda), Christina Schlueter (Jeff), Clay Martin (Jennifer), Michelle Tindel (Trey), Michael Marcum (Laura) and Tami Fields (Kevin); and 13 great-grandchildren, Morgan Marcum, Spencer Marcum, Kristyn Fields, Hunter Fields, Tony Solomon, Jack Collins, Cayden Martin, Cameron Martin, Cullen Schlueter, Corinne Schlueter, Kelli Tindel, Brandon Tindel and Baileigh Tindel.
Money was scarce when Johnnie was growing up, and she and her sisters worked in the fields picking cotton. But even though times were tough, she always spoke fondly of her childhood. After graduating from Stoneburg High School, she was able to take business classes. Johnnie was able to get a job as a typist at Consolidated, and later, Mid-Continent Oil. While working at Mid-Continent Oil, she met Walter Alton and they married in 1946. They had three children, Bobby Alton, Shari Ann and Gary Lynn.
Johnnie especially enjoyed working at home and in the yard. She also enjoyed spending time with Walter at their farms in Carbon and Decatur. They were able to take some nice trips together, including traveling to Alaska and Israel.
Johnnie loved her family dearly. She would do anything for any one of them. She gave large family dinners and loved having the grandchildren for sleepovers. Her Thanksgiving dinners were unmatched and Christmas was a magical time at her house. She always made sure each one had that very special gift.
She was a long-time member of Pipeline Road Church of Christ and later Legacy Church of Christ. Sundays were special to her as she gathered with her church family to worship God. Her life can be summed in words she wrote herself - "There is nothing so wonderful as love of God and family." These words truly describe who she was. She will be dearly missed by all.
