Charlie Houston Welch, 75 of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Advent Health in Daytona Beach.

He was born January 27, 1945 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Lewis and Annie (Greenwood) Welch.

Charlie’s many accomplishments consisted of rising through the ranks and retiring from the Social Security Administration as a Claims Supervisor. He was a proud and dedicated member of ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY INCORPORATED and PRESIDENT and CEO of the FOUR SEASONS MINISTRY INC. which he and his team of volunteers routinely fed the homeless. For many years he held the position of Deacon and the office of Superintendent at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Being a man of humble distinction; Charlie was honored by Bethune Cookman’s Women Advisory Board as one of the Unsung Heroes of the community. His interests included fishing, being a consummate community leader, dedication to his Alma Mata; The University of Tennessee (Go Vols) and the love for dancing. However, the accomplishment that made his heart smile the most was being a Father, Grandfather (Grandpa Charlie) and Great grandfather. His first ministry was always, always, always his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Charlie leaves to mourn his passing his children, Valerie Welch of Atlanta Georgia, Angela Dreher and Andrena Welch of Daytona Beach Florida, Christopher Welch of Port St. Lucie Florida, his beloved brothers Lewis Welch Jr.(Karen) and George Welch(Olga Michele) of Knoxville Tennessee, 8 Grandchildren; Michael Henry, Naria Welch Mebane, Jaylan Scott, Cierra Welch, Jean-Luc Kuzviwanza, Caleb, Gabrielle and Joshua Dreher; 4 great grandchildren, Ny’jae Henry, King Henry, Jayden Hicks, Aiden Hicks; sonsin- law, Madrick Dreher and Charles Coats.

Others mourning his departure are beloved nephews who were more like sons. Charlie poured wisdom and guidance into James Alvin, Leon, Jeffrey, Sean, Patrick, Aquil, Maurice, Lewis Jr., and Edward Welch. Also mourning their amazing uncle are his nieces Taja, Stephanie, Sasha, Jasiri, Tiara, December Welch, and his beloved Stepchildren he raised as his own, Melanie, Wanda, and Andre Dickey, with a host of other nephews, nieces, and friends.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Welch Sr., his brother James Welch Sr. and his mother Annie Greenwood Welch.

His Celebration of his life service will be held Saturday, Jan. 30th at 11:00 am at Tomoka Christian Church, 1450 Hand Avenue Ormond Beach, Fl 32174. A viewing will be held at Lohman’s Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach, FL on Friday Jan. 29th from 6pm-8pm and Saturday morning from 10am-11am at Tomoka Christian Church. A viewing will also be held at Jarnigan & Sons Funeral Home 2823 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Knoxville, TN on Friday 02/05/2021 from 10am – 8pm.

The Interment Sherwood Memorial Gardens 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701 on Saturday 02/06/2021 at 11:00am.

Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Charlie’s memory to, Charlie Welch P.O. Box 11174 Daytona Beach, FL 32120. The donations will be given to the charity/s of his choice.
