George Douglas Hayes, age 73 of Lake Waccamaw, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville, NC.
George was born on January 20, 1948, in Mullins, SC to the late Ned George Washington Hayes and Vennie Elvie Blackwell Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Godwin.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021 in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery, with Dr. Glenn Stanley and Rev. John Correll officiating.
To cherish his memory, George leaves behind his wife, Virginia Ruth Hilbourn Hayes of the home; daughters: Ruth Ann Hayes, Melissa Deanne Hayes Godwin and husband, Kenneth Lewis, of Cerro Gordo, and Jennifer Lynn Hayes Strickland and husband, Jimmy Delane, of Cerro Gordo. George also leaves behind his grandchildren, James Allen George Godwin, Chloe Layne Strickland, Hannah Grace Strickland, and one great-grandson, John Daniel Godwin.
