Rev. Jim Chandler, 78, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, October 19, 2008.
He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area. Rev. Jim was called to pastor several churches in the surrounding area including, Laager Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church, Laynes Chapel Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist and Pilgrims Rest Baptist. Rev. Jim was currently a member of Middle Cross Baptist Church. He was a member of the Local Teamsters # 515.
Rev. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Judd and Velma Chandler; daughter, Debbie Chandler; granddaughter, Sarah Nell Fritz; brother, Paul Chandler and a sister, Betty Jo Eslinger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nellie Hall Chandler; children, Ann (Don) Fritz and Jimmie Lou (Gary) Marshall; grandchildren, Mac and David Fritz and Shea and Briana Marshall; great-grandson, Dylan Fritz; sister, Ruth (Bud) Varner; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Middle Cross Baptist Church, 4009 Norcross Road, Hixson, with Rev. Bill Bass and Rev. Gary Shirley officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday and 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, and again from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
