Doris Julia "Julie" Payne, 76, of Hawk Point, MO, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at her residence. She was born on May 5, 1944 in Oakdale, Louisiana to Cephus and Kathryn (Taylor) Wright. Julie was one of the middle children, out of 12 siblings. Her family lived in Des Moines, Iowa, and this is where Julie grew up. On April 4, 1966, she married the love of her life, Dan Payne, and they lived in Missouri. Julie raised 8 children, and was a very loving mother. After her children were in school, she worked for many years at Agri foods in Hawk Point. Julie then began working as a life-skills teacher at Community Opportunities in Troy. She was well suited for the job, as she was so patient and kind. Some of her hobbies were reading, collecting antiques, traveling and camping. The family always had a big vegetable garden and Julie enjoyed tending to it along with her children. In earlier years, Julie had a favorite horse, whose name was "Jewel" and she always loved westerns and old country music. She was a special mother to her eight children and devoted wife to Daniel.
Surviving are her loving children: Debra Barrick and her husband, Roger, of Bethel, MO, Diane Kohn of Bethel, Cephus Payne and his wife, Lisa Blossom-Payne, of Troy, Elizabeth Marquette and her husband, Dwain of Bethel, Doris Lourance and her husband, Brian, of Troy, Misty Todd and her husband, Dan, of Troy, Dan Payne II and his wife, Kym of Warrenton, Loretta Colvin and her husband, Jason, of Troy; 47 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Julie is further survived by her siblings: Sandra Bowman of Boise, Idaho, Greg Wright and his wife, Sue, of Indianola, Iowa, Sarah Hamilton and her husband, Ben, of Georgia, Jeff Wright and his wife, Charlene of St. Louis, Susan Bensley and her husband, Don of Des Moines, Iowa, as well as many other relative and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dan Payne, her parents, her two grandsons: Derek Payne and Cory Payne, her granddaughter, MariLee Becker, and her siblings: Arthur, Naomi, Stanley, Mathala, Bud and Kevin.
