Barry married Irene Keim in 1954, just before entering the Army. He and Irene enjoyed their time in Stuttgart Germany where Barry was stationed for 18 months.
Barry's 37-year career in education was spent at Lincoln Northeast High School. He was hired in 1957, at the age of 24. He served as Teacher (math), Coach (baseball and football), and Counselor. In 1965 he became an Assistant Principal and, reluctantly, had to give up coaching. After retiring in 1994, he worked for the NE Department of Revenue during tax season, and taught math at Southeast Community College. His love of sports led him to the athletic department at UNL. He served many roles over a period of 58 years, including head clock operator for Men's Basketball games for 41 years and worked football games for 36 years, first as part of the sideline crew and then game clock operator. As a member of the Sports Event Staff, he worked countless baseball and volleyball games. With his years of experience, he was a very knowledgeable tour guide at Memorial Stadium for many years.
Barry was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln, leading Bible study groups for 40+ years, serving as an usher, and was a regular deliverer of Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed gardening and was once quoted as saying, "It's comforting to know that what you plant has a good chance of turning out the way you want it to. When you're working with young people, you're not so sure what's going to come up!"
Barry was a member of several local, state and national educational associations and spent two years as a national committee member on the Assistant Principalship with the National Association of Secondary Principals.
Barry is survived by his wife, Irene; daughters Kathy (Achim) Griesel, Karen (Jon) Peppmuller; son Bart Moore; grandchildren Jena (Alan Orr) Lynch, Sam Griesel, Mitch Peppmuller, Matt (Jordan) Peppmuller and Caden Peppmuller; great-grandson Carson Peppmuller and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mark Moore and Adeline Monroe, sister Beverly Holmes, half-sister Cynthia Sprinkle and nephew Michael Reese.
Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools, 5905 O Street, Lincoln NE 68510 or to the Grace Lutheran Church Foundation, 2225 Washington Street, Lincoln NE 68502. A celebration of Barry's life will be held at a later date.
